Smallville, Aquaman, Supernatural, Friday Night Lights and Wonder Woman actress spills the beans

AGENTS of S.H.I.E.L.D star Adrianne Palicki plays Bobbi ‘Mockingbird’ Morse in the Marvel series but she is no newbie to genres involving anything “super” — she’s appeared in Smallville, Aquaman, Supernatural and the 2011 Wonder Woman pilot.

Palicki chats with us while in Austrlia for the Supanova Pop Culture Expo.

Comic book appeal

I remember reading comic books in my bedroom as a child. I think that the universe is so vast, there are so many things you can do. I mean how many times has Captain America died and come back? You can do anything so there’s always this element of surprise, it leaves you guessing a little and also allows you nostalgia and to be a kid again.

My brother’s a comic book writer and [for me] getting to play all these characters has always been exciting and fun. Once I got Wonder Woman it was just like a tidal [wave] from there.

(Wonder Woman) was right before its time sadly. It was before The Avengers, it was kind of in this place where the comic book world hadn’t taken off in the way that it has now.

Meeting fans at conventions

It’s a fun experience (to attend fan conventions such as Supanova Pop Culture Expo). It can be overwhelming sometimes but it’s always exciting to get to see the people and see the effect that you’re having because comic book fans are the reason Marvel and DC have become so prevalent in Hollywood.

On being Bobbi

It’s very scary delving into a character (Bobbi) that’s so beloved.

Bobbi Morse is a very cool character, very strong, sexy, smart and funny and people definitely know more about her than I do. They know the mythology and where she came from and every version you know?

Marvel’s Most Wanted

First of all I felt flattery (when asked to star in upcoming pilot Marvel’s Most Wanted). That’s the most amazing thing for an actress that can happen and it meant so much they wanted to do something like that. And then I thought: these two characters Bobbi and Hunter (Nick Blood) are so fun and funny and it would be an awesome thing to do.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D

I think people will start to put the pieces together (and pick up on hints about the spin-off in the current season). There’s not much I can really say as you know. (Marvel is) very secret. There’s a guy with a sniper (rifle) aimed at my head right now! But I think fans are going to be pleasantly surprised.

Friday Night Lights

It’s surprising how many people I meet now who say: “People have been telling me for years to watch Friday Night Lights (Palicki’s career making role) and I just sat down and binge-watched it over the course of two weeks!”

People are still seeing it for the first time now and this is something I did a decade ago.

It was one of those rare shows that was actually watched within Hollywood. I was put in a bikini quite a bit (before then) and it was like: “Wow, she can act, she can walk and chew gum at the same time!”.

It did not just give me more opportunities but people actually saw me as an actress which was so powerful.
