Years ago, Kansas Chiefs coach Andy Reid once said, half-jokingly, if he could call a pass play on every down, he would do it. Add having Patrick Mahomes at quarterback and it does result in a pass-heavy offense, but that doesn’t mean Reid will avoid rushing the ball when the situation calls for it.
Thursday night may very well be that type of situation. The Denver Broncos are dead last in the league in fantasy points allowed on the ground in Weeks 1-4, per TruMedia. The Broncos have allowed 771 yards, a 6.8-yard per carry average, and eight rushing touchdowns in that span.
To be fair, a lot of that occurred in the Week 3 debacle against the Miami Dolphins, but Denver has allowed 405 rushing yards over the past two weeks as well, so it isn’t that game alone causing the issue.
Kansas City has relied on the ground game at times this year. The Chiefs posted 357 rushing yards in back-to-back wins over the Chicago Bears and New York Jets in Weeks 3 and 4. With Travis Kelce nursing an ankle injury, this could be another opportunity to do so.
That is what makes Isiah Pacheco’s over/under in rushing yards such an interesting proposition, as it is currently at 76.5 yards in pregame betting at BetMGM. Pacheco has only topped that figure once this year when he posted 115 rushing yards against the Jets in Week 4, but that wager also has -120 odds for the over and -110 odds for the under.
This means the betting public is thinking Pacheco has a better chance of exceeding that number than falling below it.
